New Dodge Daytona 2017
There is no doubt that the Dodge Challenger and Charger have a cult-like following. Muscle car enthusiasts all over the world have to agree that the two models carry a lot of history for the segment and have been putting smiles on the faces of their owners for decades. Automakers like Dodge know that special edition versions of their muscle cars only build more respect and credibility in front their fans and enthusiasts and for years, special edition versions of the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger have graced our roads. So you can imagine the excitement we had when we found out that we would get to spend some time with the all-new 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona 392. Paying homage to its legendary NASCAR history, the Dodge Charger Daytona has been one of the most sought after special edition muscle cars. And while most muscle car these days have an Eco, Comfort, or Normal mode (so you can blend in with the rest of the traffic around you), the Dodge Charger Daytona 392 is loud and crazy all the time. Let's take a closer look at this beast.
Exterior
At first sight, the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytonalooks like a regular powerful HEMI Charger with some special graphics - but there is definitely more to it The 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona includes SRT- and R/T Scat Pack-inspired front and rear performance fascias, performance side sills and a one-piece Satin Black performance spoiler that actually helps with the downforce. There is a giant satin black "HEMI" hood graphic that highlights the NACA duct and on the back, there is a "Daytona" rear-quarter graphic. The roof is also finished in black for a more aggressive and menacing look. The 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona rides on wide 20 x 9-inch Mopar lightweight forged-aluminum wheels finished in Hyper Black II. Also, let's not forget about the signature "Daytona" grille badging right on the front. The exterior of the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona easily stands out from the crowd and is a perfect complement to its loud and harsh personality.
Interior
Take a seat inside the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona and you'll notice the special treatments continue. The heated and cooled black Nappa leather performance seats feature a Brazen Gold accent stitching with "Daytona" embroidered on the seat backs. The gold stitching can also be found in the center console armrest, door armrests, and door panels. The Charger Daytona also features new Carbonite aluminum interior bezels and Gloss Black interior accents Completing the "Daytonaness" are a pair of floor mats with a embroidered Dodge logo, bright performance pedals and "Daytona" instrument panel badge. Tech-wise, the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona comes standard with an 8.4-inch touchscreen display that houses the Uconnect infotainment system. The system also includes USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity (with audio streaming), Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, and a range of driver assist technologies that we'll discuss later. All that is complemented by the spacious and comfortable Dodge Charger interior that we've come to love. Keep in mind though, the Dodge Charger Daytona is by no means a quiet car. This special edition model is intended to be loud and wild, so even when you're cruising at 50 mph, the Dodge Charger Daytona is ready to fire on all cylinders as soon as you pounce on the accelerator pedal.
Performance
Speaking of pouncing on the accelerator pedal, the 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona is powered by two engine choices including a 5.7-liter V8 for the regular Daytona and a 6.4-liter V8 for the Daytona 392 - we were more than happy to spend time with the latter. The 2017 Dodge Charger Daytona 392's 6.4-liter supercharged V8 engine pumps out an outstanding 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the Dodge Charger Daytona 392 can run from 0 to 60 mph in mid four-second range and can run the quarter mile in the low 12-second range. The Dodge Charger Daytona 392 also gets high performance Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes, Mopar conical cold-air intake filter, electronically controlled active performance exhaust system, and 220-amp alternator. Yes, the Dodge Charger Daytona 392 may be a bit of an overkill over the 5.7-liter V8 Daytona, but it is simply so much more fun to drive.
Safety
The Dodge Charger Daytona comes with a long list of safety features including all-speed traction control, hill start assist, electronic stability control, rear park assist, and more. You can add on the Driver Confidence Package which will give you access to the advanced driver assist technologies including blind spot monitoring, cross path detection, and a rearview camera. The Technology Package will add on adaptive cruise control, brake assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and automatic high beam control.
